The Neighborhood Yarn Shop News
Hello Portland Knitters!

Welcome Spring! Welcome spring knitting at Close Knit! I have never been so compelled to knit with summer yarns as much as I am this season. The designs are really good and the yarns are gorgeous. I would like to finish a couple sweaters that were intended as first day of kindergarten and first day of 3rd grade sweaters for my kiddos. It looks like maybe the last day of kindergarten and last day 3rd grade is more likely. I keep playing with the new stuff coming into the shop, and get ever so distracted. This might be called YADD, "Yarn Attention Deficit Disorder". Fortunately, I know I am not alone!

I would like to just list out some of the new little darlings in the shop...

Rowan's "Bamboo Tape", "Bamboo Soft", and "Damask" with new colors in "Summer Tweed" all beckon us with great color and pattern support. Bamboo has come of age in knitting with Plymouth's "Royal Bamboo" in multi color shades and Berroco's" Bonsai, a bamboo, rayon blend with patterns from Norah Gaughan. Her patterns make me weep...'cause I am not sure if I can accomplish them with my YADD condition.

Rowan and Debbie Bliss have two new yarns that are seasonless and fabulous. "Pure Wool DK" and "Rialto". Lovely! We have expanded our Rowan line to also include "Cotton Glace" and "Cash Cotton". Karabella has "Vintage Cotton" a 4 ply mercerized cotton and a new worsted weight "Windy". The Italian styling with Karabella patterns are so...Italian. "Cleo" is gorgeous bulky Egyptian cotton in almost metallic hues. This one is from Laines du Nord.Louisa Harding's summer yarns are bold and wonderful as usual. We have added all colors of 1824 cotton to all the colors of 1824 wool. The Mission Falls patterns and colors are always some of our faves and these yarns are great for kids. Good for grown-ups too!

GGH yarns new for the season are "Tara", a cotton blend that feels like cashmere! "Boulino" is a dressy cotton/linen blend that is really great for that summer tank. A new silk from GGH aptly named "silk" is elegant and ohhhh so fine. All with great patterns in Rebecca. Cleckheaton "Country Silk" is new for us and the pattern support for this yarn is very nice, simple and very modern too. We have recently received some new additions to already wonderful lines that are grand. We just accepted our most recent load of "Lumpy Bumpy" from Farmhouse and have included "Bo Peep" sock yarn and "Andy's Merino". These are right off the American farm and the colors are stunning. "Gaia", Dream in Colors new sock yarn, is added to our washable veil dyed worsted weight yarn. Collinettes "Jitterbug" yarns are absolutely stunning. We are especially enjoying the velvet colorways. We have expanded Trekking sock colors and have samples knit up...come see!

Louet is here...again. We have most colors in Louet gems for those lace socks that deserve that solid color. More colors of EuroFlax Linen plus we now have Merlin, linen and merino in one (oh my), in both sport and worsted weights. Leigh Radford showed us the result of Louet's new felting yarn "Riverstone" in our winter felting classes. We believe. It is on the shelves! I am felting with a new yarn from Berroco called "Peruvia". Stay tuned.

We love our Manos, Cascade 220, Cascade Pastaza, Lambs Pride, Ultra Alpaca, Misti Alpaca, Alpaca with a Twist, Sheep Shop, and the little jewels of Habu.

Very special newbies include: Be Sweet, Jade Sapphire lace cashmere, and Fibre Company. Loom in Essence yarns have 3 new colors in our shop. All natural dyes and made with care by a local artisan.

Whew. Sorry. I tried to shorten it.

Saturday, June 9th is worldwide KIP (Knit in Public) day. Last year we kicked off our LCK (Lawn Chair Knitting) that day and we will again this year. So, bring a lawn chair, coffee, tea, and some fiber and go from 10 am till??? Out on the front lawn, i.e. the sidewalks of Alberta. A fun gathering of craft minded people every Saturday morn. So come for KIP day at the CK LCK day on June 9th. Did you get it? (Maybe not so easy for those of you with YADD). To kick off the Close Knit Lawn Chair Knitting opener on June 9th we will offer up some wonderful spring and summer yarns at a discount! (That would be the CK LCK S&SS or, Close Knit Lawn Chair Knitting Spring & Summer Sale).

Don't forget "Open Knit Night" every Wednesday eve from 6 to 10 pm. Put the babes to bed and grab a beer at the Mash Tun Microbrew across the street for some seriously great company at Close Knit.

Classes! Yea. We love all our instructors and the students do, too! Please check out the new schedule that will carry us through summer. Plan your workshop or class today!

One class you should all pay special attention to is an evening with Donna Druchunus, author of "Artic Lace". Donna is a knitter with a story to tell. Her journey in writing Artic Lace allowed her to travel through rural Alaska. She spent time with Native American women who have a history of working with Qivuit fiber and lace patterns with historical significance. Donna will be presenting a one hour lecture about her travels that is free to attendees. Her lace class will follow and is described in the Workshops. This class will fill fast!

I am delighted to see you all come back to Close Knit. I appreciate your enthusiasm, kindness, creative energy, and patronage. So...we are targeting June 1 as our day to start the Close Knit "Stash Card". We know you will enjoy the savings, because we know you all need more yarn in your stash. Stay tuned, and thank you!
