Summer greetings from Close Knit. We all love those cold, wintery days with many knitting projects planned to accompany the scene. Well, summer is no different for me. How about you? I just went camping in the rain with my husband, my young children and friends. This included knitting in the car, on the beach, by firelight, by moonlight, by flashlight (wish I would have had the flashlight needles that are soon to hit the store - yipee), and while firmly planted in a childs' car seat (for lack of any other dry seating) while supervising kids on bikes in the rain. I knit year round in ANY weather!
We've had a great time on Wednesday nights for "Open Knit Night" (6-10pm). The Mash Tun Microbrewery across the street so graciously fill our mason jars with "beverage of choice". I have really enjoyed making new knitting friends. Thankyou all for making Wednesday eves a night I look forward to weekly. Make note...we are changing the location for June 14th. Our amazing knitting friend Lars and his partner Geoff plan to host "Open Knit Night" for a night of knitting in the garden at his home. Please contact us for the address. We'll get to meet the famous sweater-wearin' pig (yep, a pig in a sweater), Ollie Mae! Lars is so proud. We hope we can tempt you into the shop for some summer fibers. SouthWest Trading Company Bamboo and SoySilk, All Hemp 6, Hemp for Knitting, Linen by Needful yarns, Rowan, Debbie Bliss, Aracaunia and Noro Summer yarns. We are proud to also introduce to Portland, Shaniko Oregon's own, Imperial Stock Ranch yarn. This specially colored natural fiber yarn reflects the ranch's unique, high desert landscape that has been sustainably hand-crafting yarn since 1871. History in the wool and you can feel it! If camp knitting is not your idea of fun, we have a new weekly social knitting event planned for summer on Saturday mornings, "Lawn Chair Knitting". That's right, bring a lawn chair and your summer project Saturday mornings outside the shop from 10 to noon. We hope 22nd and Alberta is full of lawn chair knitters. The kick-off is this Saturday, the 10th, "National Knit in Public Day". Hope to see you all. We have morning goodies waiting for you!
